About the Event
Jeff Coffin is a saxophonist, composer, and educator who has earned international acclaim for his work with Dave Matthews Band and Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, as well as his 25+ solo projects. Coffin’s approach to the saxophone is marked by a fearless sense of exploration, fusing jazz, funk, world music, and rock into a style that is uniquely his own. A 3x Grammy Award winner, Coffin continues to tour the world as a member of Dave Matthews Band and captivates audiences with his powerful, emotive playing. In addition to his work as a performer, Coffin is deeply committed to music education. He has been teaching at the prestigious Vanderbilt University since 2015 and has also presented well over 400 workshops and clinics around the globe. He is the founder of an independent record label, Ear Up Records, and co-founder of AfricaNashville - which promotes cross cultural relationships between celebrated African and American artists in Nashville, TN. Coffin’s infectious passion for sharing knowledge has made him a respected mentor to aspiring musicians everywhere he goes. Viktor Krauss (b. 1969, Champaign, IL) is a Nashville-based bassist and composer whose expansive career spans nearly four decades. Since relocating to Nashville in 1992, he has amassed more than 800 album credits as an instrumentalist, composer, songwriter, and producer. His versatile musicianship has supported an extraordinary range of artists, including Bill Frisell (Nashville, Gone, Just Like a Train, Good, Dog Happy Man, Disfarmer), Robert Plant and Alison Krauss (Raise the Roof), Lyle Lovett (Step Inside this House, My Baby Don't Tolerate, Natural Forces, It's Not Big, It's Large etc.), James Taylor (American Standard), Tom Jones, Shawn Colvin, Sheryl Crow, Carly Simon, Jerry Douglas, Kacey Musgraves, Buddy Miller, Chet Atkins, Larry Carlton, Shelby Lynne, James Newton Howard, The Chieftains, Peter Rowan, Harry Connick Jr., J.D. Souther, Joan Baez, Indigo Girls, Dolly Parton, Rodney Crowell, Graham Nash, Michael McDonald, John Fogerty, Elvis Costello, Kenny Rogers, Janis Ian, Jewel, Michael Feinstein—among many others. As a solo artist, Krauss describes his music as “soundtracks without a movie,” blending jazz, Americana, and classic rock. His debut album, Far From Enough (Nonesuch, 2004), featuring Bill Frisell, Jerry Douglas, Steve Jordan, and Alison Krauss, reached #6 on the Billboard® Contemporary Jazz Chart. His follow-up, II (EMI, 2007), showcased collaborations with Dean Parks, Matt Chamberlain, and guest vocalists including Lyle Lovett, Shawn Colvin, Ben Taylor, and Shweta Jhaveri. In 2006, Krauss was awarded a prestigious fellowship at the Sundance Institute Film Composers Lab. His film scoring work includes collaborations/placements with iconic directors such as Ken Burns and the late Robert Altman. Additionally, selections from his solo recordings are featured as musical interludes ("bumpers") on National Public Radio. Bob Lanzetti is a Brooklyn, NY based professional guitarist, composer, producer, and educator. He has performed and recorded with many artists throughout the NYC area as well as played in over 40 countries with the multi-Grammy Award-Winning jazz/funk collective, Snarky Puppy. Since 2006, Bob has been residing in Brooklyn, NY. There he has become an in-demand session guitarist performing and recording with many artists including Tommy Sims, Jerry Granelli, Brad Shepik, Jeff Coffin, Bokanté, Becca Stevens, Cory Henry, Ghost-Note (Robert “Sput” Searight/Nate Werth), Bilal, Banda Magda, and many more. As a composer/artist Bob writes, records, produces, and performs his own original compositions with his quartet. His debut record, Whose Feet are These That are Walking, was released, to positive reviews, in September 2017. In 2020 Bob had the opportunity to compose an original score for the 1922 silent film, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror, for Alamo Drafthouse’s annual film festival, Fantastic Fest. Most recently Bob has teamed up with fellow Snarky Puppy members, Zach Brock (violin) and Keita Ogawa (percussion) to form a new trio called Brock, Lanzetti, Ogawa.
