About the Event
LYNNE HANSON with Opener DOMENIC CICALA

Lynne Hanson is an Ottawa-based, Americana songwriter known for her high energy roots guitar driven live performances with an authenticity that's as entertaining as it is disarming.

Too tough for folk and too blues-influenced for country, Lynne Hanson’s brand of porch music with a little red dirt can turn on a dime from a sunshine, blue sky ballad to a full on thunderstorm of gritty Americana swamp from one song to the next. Her hard living music has garnered her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana.” And while her deep, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart.

Winner of two Canadian Folk Music Awards, Hanson is known for her high energy, roots guitar driven live performances, whether playing solo or with her band the Good Intentions. She has an uncanny way of connecting with her audience with an authenticity that is as entertaining as it is disarming.

The prolific songwriter has released nine studio albums along with two books of poetry over her 18 year solo career. She’s toured extensively across North America, Europe and the UK, and appeared at leading international festivals including Take Root (Netherlands), Glasgow Americana (Scotland), Maverick Festival (UK), Kerrville Folk Festival (US), and Winnipeg Folk Festival (Canada). She has also toured as support for Grammy-nominated artists like Gretchen Peters, Steve Forbert and Albert Lee.

Lynne Hanson released her tenth studio album “Just A Poet” in Spring 2024.

Hailing from the D.C. area, Domenic Cicala - A singer/songwriter with a love for the 3-minute song. Largely influenced by the holy musical trinity of Hank, Elvis and Bruce and owing all his musical acumen to the sagely philosophy of Woody Guthrie "If you play more than 2 chords you are showing off". Domenic is a Roots Rock/Americana artist who performs his own compositions as well as digging deep into the covers catalog.
Domenic was recently referred to as a “newcomer”. Having been a rabid fan for most of his life, he started playing music in his early 50’s. His first public performance was in 2008, and his first record was released in 2014. The CD called "Who's Foolin Who", which garnered a Washington Area Music Association nomination for “Best Roots Rock recording”, is a record that brings together many musical elements and styles from country punk waltz to Memphis style R&B to quirky folk/pop. The record features the cream of the crop of DC musicians, as well as guest appearances by Birds of Chicago and Rachel Harrington.
Domenic put out his next record, Our Favorite Song. The record reached number 34 on the Roots Music Report chart and landed at #128 out of top 200 for 2017.
In 2020 he gathered together a group of stellar musicians to form the Coalesce Choir to record the Bruce Springsteen tune American Skin to benefit NAACPLDF and BLM. Among those on that song were Martyn Joseph, Allison Russell, Laura Cantrell, Jon Langford, Rick Shea, Beth Wood, Mark Wenner and many of the brightest musical stars from the DC area.
More recently Come On Over, The Honky Tonk Duets has met with rave reviews and recently was being played on over 80 stations around the world including Sirius/XM the Village. The record featured duets with BettySoo, Jaimee Harris, Rachel Harrington, Mindy Miller, Michelle Hannan and more.
His newest release Bitter Blues is the culmination of a lifetime of Americana influence. Each song standing solidly alone and collectively as a unit!
