Johnathan Loos is a singer-songwriter and guitarist based in New York City by way of North Carolina. His sound blends folk, rock, and contemporary sensibilities, built around warm acoustic tones, electric guitar layers, and introspective songwriting that explores love, loss, and identity with a light touch. Loos has been creating music for as long as he can remember—from truly dazzling preschool classmates at show-and-tell with a Fisher-Price keyboard, to early piano lessons, to eventually finding his voice through guitar and lyric writing. Born in Delaware and raised in Advance, NC, he played rock music in his high school band, then built his guitar chops in a thrash metal group during college years at UNC Chapel Hill. After graduating, he moved back to the Winston-Salem area, drawn to the musicianship, virtuosity, and storytelling of the roots and Americana tradition that runs deep in the region. He spent several years touring the Southeast and Eastern US as guitarist in the Tyler Nail Trio—cutting his teeth in dive bars, festivals, theaters, and listening rooms—while also writing, recording, and producing material from his home studio in Rural Hall.
Since moving to New York in 2016, Loos has continued writing, recording, and performing, building a presence in the city's singer-songwriter community. His latest EP, Perfect Gentleman, was released in February 2025.
