Happy Diwali!

Join Prabir and a star-studded cast of musicians to get a little taste of India on November 7th at The Front Porch. Virginia musician and musical adventurer, Prabir Mehta, will curate a night of music to explore ancient Indian raags through original compositions and some familiar favorites. For this auspicious event Prabir, has assembled a crew of musicians to include mridanga, tanpura, organ, cello, and more! Charlottesville native Gina Sobel and her flute will also join the ensemble. Come share stories about India, dive into ancient Indian raags, and get a chance to connect with a beautiful culture! The accompanying musicians for the night will include Prudhvi Meda, David Rapaso, Kenneka Cook, and Mara Smith.

Rooted in India and sculpted by Virginia, Prabir's music is the bridge between the east and west. Traditional raga melodies from India turned into riffs played on guitar, all fused together in a harmonic and melodic presentation. For this event Prabir will be sharing a series of pieces that explore various parts of ancient Indian music, memories from life in India, and stories from modern India.

Diwali, the “Festival of Lights,” is one of India’s most celebrated holidays, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists in different ways, it often includes diyas (oil lamps), rangoli, sweets, fireworks, prayer, music, and gatherings with family and community. At its heart, Diwali is a celebration of renewal—clearing away the old, welcoming light, and beginning again with gratitude and optimism.
