"What's Going On", the epic ground -breaking album from Marvin Gaye performed by Saxophonist Letron Brantley with special guest Persona Bell exclusively at the Jam Shak, Friday October 10th, 7:00pm and 9:15pm! 

Released on May 21, 1971, by the Motown Records subsidiary label Tamla, "What's Going On" is a concept album with most of its songs segueing into the next and has been categorized as a song cycle. The narrative established by the songs is told from the point of view of a Vietnam veteran returning to his home country to witness hatred, suffering, and injustice. Gaye's introspective lyrics explore themes of drug abuse, poverty, and the Vietnam War. 

Letron “LTrain” Brantley is a native of South Carolina. He has been an actively performing as a saxophonist since he was 12 years old. In his younger years, he was heavily influenced by Jazz, Gospel, and R&B music. He studied music in college which allowed him to hone his craft, as well as perform with various Jazz, Soul, and Funk groups. During his musical career, Letron has had the opportunity to perform with many great musicians and performers such as Jazz recording artist Bob Mintzer, saxophonist Lenny Picket of the Saturday Night Live band, and Gospel recording artist Donnie McClurkin to name a few.

Persona Bell is not only an accomplished "Soultry" performer, she is a classically-trained Pianist! Her vocal range has been compared to super-performers like Alicia Keys and Beyonce', and has been influenced by legends Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. She uniquely marries her piano talent with her full-soul singing and songwriting. Her audiences cannot hear enough of her sound, and feel her heart-felt, raw emotion in her music!
