Beginning deep in the ocean, this program rises upward—breaking the surface and ultimately soaring into the sky. As human beings, we don’t naturally inhabit the deep sea or the high atmosphere, which gives us limited direct experience of either realm—but abundant imagination about what life means at each level.
“Blue” takes place at the Stoughton Opera House and features voice, string quartet, string bass, and piano. The one-hour program, performed without intermission, includes works by John Cage, Kaija Saariaho, Maurice Ravel, Florence Price, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Franz Schubert.
