~About the Event~
Expressions is a double feature piano concert presented by Harold Bailey and Brian Bratton. The show includes classical, contemporary and original compositions for piano that showcase both performers' unique individuality and life experiences.
Harold Bailey is an American Classical pianist and composer from Richmond, Virginia. At age 16 he began his journey in music as a self-taught pianist with the aspiration of teaching and performing professionally. Among the highlights of his career have included improvising with the late Chick Corea, and giving a solo performance at Carnegie Hall as a finalist of the American Prize International Piano and Strings Competition. Harold performs collaboratively in the Harrisonburg area and teaches piano in various settings including his private studio, The Front Porch Music School (Charlottesville, VA), the Shenandoah Valley Preparatory Music Program (Harrisonburg, VA), and the Eastern Mennonite University Department of Music (Harrisonburg, VA). Harold aspires to pursue further graduate studies in performance and composition.
Brian Bratton is a Filipino-American self-taught composer-pianist, and lifelong resident of the Shenandoah Valley. After the passing of his aunt, Brians mother purchased a Yiruma piano CD which she would play on car rides, inspiring him at the age of 16 to begin playing and composing for the piano. Despite a traumatic upbringing, spending time in foster care as a child, and being homeless as an adult, Brian has found a new lease on life through his music and career as a realtor for Kline May Realty. He volunteers regularly by playing for hospitals, nursing homes, churches, and small businesses. Brian is currently a full-time student at James Madison University majoring in Business Management. He looks forward to the completion of his own original piano album which is still being composed.
