Started by Holly Renee Allen and Susan Munson, the Neon Angels began as a festival honoring female voices. This strong collective of women songwriters and musicians from the southeast are disrupting the status quo again. This time, with ‘‘Neon Angels @ THE MARKET’’, a songwriters round highlighting new upcoming and familiar voices. This  Neon Angels showcase will feature Holly Renee Allen, Crystal Armentrout, Susan Munson and Gina Sobel. 

Charlottesville-based Singer/Songwriter, Rock ‘n’ Roller, Susan Munson writes the songs that she hears on the wind and in her soul. They demand to be written and performed for others to enjoy. Many of her songs have a bluesy, fun feel with vocals infused with love and a breath of fresh air. Others lean into country, making her rich voice evoke the soul of Emmylou Harris and the prose of John Prine.

Real and honest... Holly Renee Allen delivers Americana soul. Her songs are rich and vibrant, lyrically intelligent, spoken in "Southernese." her albums include Appalachian Piecemeal, Big Love and Red Dirt Soul.

Gina Sobel is a natural improviser. Accomplished on multiple instruments (flute, sax, voice), radiating energy and excitement in her live performances.Sobel is an award winning songwriter and composer bringing elements of jazz, funk and American folk into a fresh and compelling sound with her band CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE. She is active in genres across the spectrum, ranging from hip-hop to bluegrass.

Crystal Armentrout is one of the few performers who can accurately be described as embodying the concept of total, consummate artist: A versatile singer who possesses a voice of incredible technical ability as well as emotional depth, she is also a virtuoso guitarist who combines a variety of influences, including Hendrix, Clapton and Bonnie Raitt. A true multi-talent, Armentrout is also accomplished on more than 10 other instruments, including bass, keyboards, saxophone, drums and mandolin. A native of Staunton Virginia, Crystal relocated to Nashville in 2000, she began honing her already considerable songwriting skills by collaborating with local writers-while still continuing to perform regionally in cities such as Atlanta, Knoxville, Chattanooga and Charlotte, North Carolina. Moving effortlessly between modern rock, adult contemporary, old-school soul, funk and roots rock, Crystal proves to be a masterful interpreter of virtually any style of music that she chooses to undertake.
