Since the 1930’s, The Garden Club of Natchez, Mississippi, has kicked off their annual Tour of Homes with a tableau featuring townsfolk portraying characters in a historic brawling bar and redlight district, Southern Belles, Civil War Soldiers, French Settlers, and famous local historic personalities. This year the tableau turns out to be a disaster, witnessed by a man from out of town who’s come to document the people and traditions of Natchez. When both the Historic Society and Bed and Breakfast Society are approached by the stranger, they offer up their southern hospitality and allow him into their inner circle. He plans to write a book he claims will have people flocking to Natchez, boosting badly needed tourism. But Natchez is a town with more than its share of secrets and it plans to keep it that way.
