This show is a part of the Rivanna Roots Concert Series, presented by The Front Porch and Rivanna River Company. Doors open at 5 pm and music is from 6-9 pm. Mighty Joshua

Independent Reggae Artist Mighty Joshua engages audiences by opening minds and activating bodies through song. Distinctive refrains pulse with pride, and the soulful exploration of sound creates an expression of reggae for the modern day. His musical roots in African percussion led to experimenting with sound and rhythm, soon after exposure to Djembe and Djun Djun drums they became a part of his playing repertoire which also includes the Didgeridoo. Mighty Joshua has opened for several internationally acclaimed reggae acts including Ziggy Marley, Steel Pulse, Beres Hammond, Akae Beka, Glen Washington, the Meditations, the Itals, and Culture w/ Kenyatta Hill. He has performed at top tier music festivals LOCKN’, MOJA, Austin Reggae Fest, Camp Barefoot, and Capital Fringe Fest. When he’s not living the life of a professional musician he enjoys integrating music for social awareness and celebrating the impact individuals can make. His sophmore album DREADUCATION is upcoming this may, and offers a captivating musical journey through 14 tracks, each a unique exploration of reggae's depth and power. Each track tells a story, from uplifting anthems to soulful ballads, offering listeners a diverse and engaging experience. Mighty Joshua's signature style shines through, blending traditional reggae vibes with modern influences for a fresh, dynamic sound.The album features collaborations with a talented array of artists including legendary jazz artist Plunk Branch, Grammy nominated keyboardist Desi Hyson, renowned reggae guitarist Ras Mel, and former KDTU guitarist and Richmond’s hometown hero, DJ Williams.  Collaborators bring their unique styles and perspectives, contributing to the album's vibrant and diverse tapestry of sounds in the studio and behind the scenes, with credit to mixing and engineering from notable music industry veteran Derrick Parker, recording studio engineer Matt Whitworth, and famed dub mixologist Dr. Dubenstein.

Michael Coleman

Michael Coleman burst seemingly out of nowhere onto the Charlottesville music scene in early 2011. As a singer and songwriter he draws from his religious upbringing, life experiences and influences ranging from Otis Redding to Dave Matthews. His skills as a jazz drummer translate themselves to the guitar to create a truly unique rhythmical sound. Rounded off with a voice that is as raw as it is soothing and passionate, Coleman's music has struck a chord with the people of Charlottesville and beyond. With his band Free Union, he's had the opportunity to take the stage at the 2019 & 2021 Lockn’ Music Festival, was featured on NPR Music’s Heavy Rotation: September Songs Public Radio Can't Stop Playing (2019) and garnered a national appearance on the acclaimed WXPN National Public Radio program World Café (2020).
