Join us for an Artist Talk & Reception for The Book As Art v.13: Mixed Messages as head into the final weekend of the exhibition. This will be a great chance to see the show in the evening (outside of gallery hours), listen to two of the artists talk about their work, and enjoy some light refreshements. See you there!
About the Show:
The Book As Art v.13: Mixed Messages is the thirteenth edition of an art show celebrating books: objects that, in an increasingly digital world, stubbornly survive. This exhibition of book arts is installed in the Fourth Floor Gallery of Decatur Library from September 12 - October 25th. You may see the show during Gallery Hours, which are Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from 1 - 5 p.m. Learn more here.
About the Artists:
Graham Cassano is a visual artist, analog photographer, and cultural historian. His visual work explores the tension between language and form, the gap between experience and perception, between material embodiment and historical fabrication. He has shown at galleries, art centers, and museums around the country. In addition, Cassano has authored critical studies of New Deal cinema, the music of Hull-House and Eleanor Smith, and the geography of poverty and inequality in Michigan. He serves as Professor of Sociology at Oakland University, in Rochester Michigan.
Ashley Kauschinger is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores identity, time, and material. Her work has been exhibited and published internationally and is included in the collections of Vanderbilt University and Sir Elton John. In addition to her studio practice, Kauschinger is an independent curator and member of the arts community. She has collaborated with organizations such as the Atlanta Center for Photography, Lenscratch, The Light Factory, and Swan Coach House. From 2012 to 2019, she founded and edited Light Leaked, an online photography magazine. Kauschinger lives and works in Atlanta, GA, where she is an Assistant Professor of Art at Georgia Gwinnett College.
