The Front Porch presents the Cheick Hamala Diabate Band with longtime collaborator Corey Harris. This special event is a fundraiser for Cheick's music school in Mali and proceeds from ticket sales go to support the fundraising effort.
Cheick Hamala Diabate is a West African historian in the Jeli (Griot) tradition, and a world-recognized master of the ngoni, a Malian traditional instrument. Born in Kita, Mali, into the family Diabate with a Jeli tradition dating back over 800 years, Cheick Hamala Diabate is recognized as one of the most famous ngoni Jelis in both the Malian and international communities.
Corey Harris is a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and band leader who has carved out his own niche in the blues. A powerful singer and accomplished guitarist, he has appeared at venues throughout North America, Europe, Brazil, the Caribbean, West Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
