Mike Block is a Grammy® Award-Winning multi-style cello player, composer, singer, and educator, with a passion for cross-cultural collaborations. Hailed as “one of the bravest, most intriguing musicians on the American fusion scene” by Gramophone, he was acclaimed by the New York Times for his "vital rich-hued solo playing”, and “a true artist... a sight to behold” by Salt Lake City Desert News. Mike Block’s solo show offers a rich mixture of classical repertoire, folk music, original compositions and songs that draw inspiration from his diverse collaborations. An admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture since childhood, this performance will include works directly inspired by Wright and Taliesin.  

About Mike Block: 

In addition to solo performances, Mike's touring bands include Biribá Union, Mike Block Trio, duo with Indian tabla player Sandeep Das, and Djékady, a West-African fusion band with Balla Kouyaté. Since 2005, Mike has been a member of the Silk Road Ensemble, founded by Yo-Yo Ma, with which he earned a 2017 Grammy® Award.

As an innovator, Mike is among the first wave of cellists to adopt a strap to stand and move while performing using his own patented design, The Block Strap, and is the Musical Instrument Consultant for Forte3D, the world’s first 3D-Printed carbon fiber cello. In 2020, Mike founded Play For The Vote, which organizes musical performances at polling locations across the country on Election Days, with the goal of creating a more positive voting experience. 

As an educator, Mike is dedicated to creating transformative experiences, and is the Founder/Director of the Mike Block String Camp in Vero Beach, FL, Silkroad’s Global Musician Workshop in Boston, MA, and Hangzhou, China, and teaches over 400 cello students online through his Multi-Style Cello School at ArtistWorks.com. Since 2018, he has been on faculty at the New England Conservatory.

Taliesin Hillside Theater has limited ADA seating availability. If you have any specific needs, please contact us in advance at programs@taliesinpreservation.org. Taliesin events take place on the historic estate and include walking outside on uneven terrain and gravel walkways and often include stairs with no handrails. 
 
New in 2026, Hillside Theater is equipped with an Auracast BluetoothLE assistive listening system.

Photo Waiver 

Photography, videography, and audio recording are not allowed during the program. Photography and short-form videos up to 30 seconds, without archival footage and for personal use only, are allowed before and after the program. Equipment, such as tripods and selfie sticks, is not permitted. No other reproductions may be created for commercial use in any way without the express, written consent of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. 
 
While on the property, you may be photographed or videotaped for use by Taliesin Preservation or the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. By purchasing a ticket to this event, you agree that Taliesin Preservation has full permission to use your photograph, or likeness, for any promotional purposes that they deem appropriate. Cancellation Policy

Taliesin programs are non-refundable. With 24-hours notice, we can provide a credit for the value of the event, excluding fees, or transfer your ticket to another person at no additional cost. In the unfortunate event that Taliesin Preservation cancels the event, guests will be notified in advance and offered a credit or full refund to the original payment method. Taliesin is part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, and all ticket sales support our mission to preserve its cultural, built, and natural environments.
