About the Event

A special addition to this year's Native Art Marketplace!

Jazz trumpeter Delbert Anderson joins guitarist and cedar flutist Wade Fernandez and bassist Felix Sainz, Jr. for a unique and exciting musical experience that celebrates the connections between the American Midwest and Southwest.

Presented by Little Eagle Arts Foundation (LEAF) and Taliesin Preservation, this concert reflects both Wright’s ties to Wisconsin and Arizona and LEAF’s representation of Native artists from the Great Lakes area and beyond.

Experience a one-night-only convergence of these three accomplished musicians on the historic Hillside Theater stage.

The Performers

Delbert Anderson, a Diné jazz trumpet artist, composer, and educator, stands at the forefront of a vibrant Native American jazz scene. His work, deeply rooted in his Diné heritage, seamlessly integrates Navajo "spinning songs" of love, healing, and courtship with jazz and funk, thus marking him as a community-minded Indigenous individualist. His compositions are inspired by Navajo Nation landscapes, historical events, and the desire to preserve and educate about Diné history.

Wade Fernandez / Wicīwen Apīs-Mahwaew (Walks With The Black Wolf) is a “deeply authentic” international touring artist and educator from the Menominee Nation.  Winning numerous awards in multiple musical genres, his musical and educational style know no bounds. His music and his message are firmly grounded in his Menominee Reservation roots and love for the land, animals, and people.

Felix B. Sainz, Jr. is an in-demand electric and upright bassist, vocalist/classic guitarist. He has over 35 years of experience in the performing arts and has performed with a multitude of artists in local, regional, national, and international venues.  He is also an experienced educator and clinician and has performed in music workshops for schools including K-12 and post-secondary education all around the Southwestern United States.
