For the 11th season, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild tours the American West. Mountain tops, old-growth forests, and sunny meadows replace the traditional concert hall in the series featuring pianist Hunter Noack on a 9-foot Steinway concert grand piano. Listen through wireless headphones and wander afield with the music as a soundtrack to your experience in the wild.
About this Landscape
Luther Burbank Park sits on the northeastern end of Mercer Island, spanning nearly a mile of shoreline along Lake Washington. Much of the park remains intentionally undeveloped, preserving wetlands and habitat that support a wide range of birdlife and native species.
The site was established in 1890 as a private school emphasizing horticulture and hands-on learning, and later renamed to honor horticulturist Luther Burbank. After the State of Washington assumed control in 1957 and the school relocated in 1966, the land transitioned into public park use.
The IN A LANDSCAPE concert takes place near Calkins Point Sand Beach, a short walk from parking along the lakeside footpath. Listeners gather on the grass and along the small beach, with space to spread out near the water.
This event takes place on the ancestral homeland of the Duwamish and Suquamish peoples.
