More about Sam Murtaugh
Sam Murtaugh is the Chief Operating Officer of Mecum Auction and has played a pivotal role in shaping Mecum's growth and operational excellence.
Murtaugh's journey with Mecum began in 2005 when he attended his first auction and was captivated by the energy and efficiency of "The Mecum Way." By 2008, he had secured a full-time position within the company. His keen eye for presentation and marketing has been instrumental in developing Mecum's distinctive brand identity and expanding its reach.
Under Murtaugh's leadership, Mecum has achieved significant milestones, including record-breaking auctions and strategic partnerships. Notably, he oversaw the integration of Mecum's live and on-demand auction coverage on streaming platforms Max and MotorTrend TV, and most-recently the move to ESPN+ to further enhance the company's digital presence.
Murtaugh is also known for his insights into the collector market. Following the $1.32 million sale of a rare 1915 Cyclone V-Twin motorcycle, he emphasized the accessibility of the collector world, noting that "motorcycles remain, and will continue to be, a great entry point for collectors."
Beyond his executive role, Murtaugh is a passionate advocate for the collector community. He frequently appears in media to discuss Mecum's events, such as the 2025 Kissimmee auction, which featured over 4,500 vehicles, including Steve McQueen’s iconic 1969 Porsche 917K from the film Le Mans.
