For the 11th season, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild tours the American West. Mountain tops, old-growth forests, and sunny meadows replace the traditional concert hall in the series featuring pianist Hunter Noack on a 9-foot Steinway concert grand piano. Listen through wireless headphones and wander afield with the music as a soundtrack to your experience in the wild.
ABOUT THE LAKE COUNTY WEEKEND EXPERIENCE
For the first time, IN A LANDSCAPE presents a weekend experience in Lake County, Oregon, Hunter’s home away from home. The mini-series begins Friday night beneath dark skies at Summer Lake Hot Springs, continues Saturday afternoon at PLAYA Arts and Science Residency, and concludes Sunday afternoon at Fort Rock State Natural Area. These sites sit within a vast high desert landscape at the northwest edge of the Great Basin, shaped by long distances, open land, and a deep sense of quiet—one of Oregon’s most remote regions.
ABOUT SUMMER LAKE HOT SPRINGS’ DARK SKY CONCERT
Friday night’s 9:30 pm dark sky concert takes place at Summer Lake Hot Springs within the 2.5 million-acre Oregon Outback International Dark Sky Sanctuary, home to some of the darkest skies in the country. The piano will be set at the edge of the dried lakebed with the Milky Way overhead and constellations such as Ursa Major visible to the naked eye. Long before stars were mapped into constellations, this land served as a place of gathering and continuity for the Yahooskin, Nüümü (Northern Paiute), Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla peoples.
ABOUT WEEKEND LODGING
For a complete south central Oregon experience, we are partnering with both PLAYA and Summer Lake Hot Springs to offer 2-night lodging packages for concert-goers. Information and reservation links for cabins, RV sites, and camping can be found on our Lake County Lodging page. Concert tickets are not included in lodging pricing and must be selected separately on this and the other concert pages.
