Eliza Blue is a writer, folk musician, and shepherd living on the short grass prairie of western South Dakota. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, and NPR’s ‘All Songs Considered.’ She writes a syndicated weekly column about life on the prairie, and she has written and produced seasonal audio ‘postcards’ from her ranch for South Dakota Public Broadcasting and Prairie Public Radio.
Her first book, Accidental Rancher, was chosen as the Siouxland One Book 2023. Her second book, Little Pasture on the Prairie, was released by the South Dakota Historical Society Press in 2024. Eliza's most recent book, The Adventures of Pearl & Theo, a middle grade reader about two orphan lambs, was inspired by her real-life experiences and the undeniable bond she shares with her own flock.
She is also the founder and director of the Kithship Collective and its partnering organization, Roots & Grass Theater Co, two projects devoted to innovative, ecosystem-specific storytelling.
